Is Your Baby Safe?

Health care providers don't know exactly what causes SIDS, but they do know:

  • Sleep surface matters
  • Babies sleep safer on their backs.
  • Babies who sleep on their stomachs are at greater risk for SIDS related deaths.

  • Babies who sleep on or under soft bedding are more likely to die of SIDS.

Local NGN Program    Cribs for Kids National Program

To reduce the risk of SIDS and accidental suffocation, Cribs for Kids, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Consumer Products Safety Commission recommend that infants sleep on their backs on a firm mattress in a safety-approved crib, with no soft bedding or comforters, with no exposure to cigarette smoke, and with a room temperature that is comfortable to adults.
